Beverlyn is an Assistant
Professor and Director of the Students in Transition to Academic Realization
Program (STAR) at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, East
Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. She is a tenured faculty member in the Department
of Academic Enrichment and Learning. Dr. Grace-Odeleye has an extensive
work experience in providing leadership to academic and administrative
programs at several colleges/universities. Her experience working with
students include David N. Meyers College, Cleveland, Ohio; Northern Arizona
University, Flagstaff, Arizona; and Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana
where she led programs from academic advising, retention programs to
Ombudsperson and Associate Dean of Students.
Beverlyn received a Master’s
degree in counseling from Howard University and a PhD in
Organizational Leadership from Regent University. Her research interests
include staff development utilizing leadership paradigms such as servant
leadership and forgiveness as a model for leadership practices, retention
issues for first and second year students, and student self-efficacy and
academic awareness. Beverlyn and two other colleagues also published an
article on “Tutoring: A Support Strategy for At-risk Students” in The
Journal of the National College Learning Center Association, Spring 2010.
Beverlyn was interested in
becoming involved in ATP activities because of the importance and impact of
tutoring in attaining success in college - particularly first and second
year students through successful transition, retention and persistence. The
tutoring profession is a crucial part of higher education and being a part
of ATP is one way to be involved and assist students in achieving their
goals. Beverlyn was excited about working as the ATP’s Public Relations
chair with the goal of increasing exhibitors for the 2011 ATP conference.
