Linda L. Skeete McClellan, M.S. serves as the coordinator for the Tutorial Assistance Network (TAN) at Alabama A & M University. She provides leadership to TAN’s tutorial and Supplemental Instruction (SI) functions and partners with students, faculty, staff and the community to provide academic support services to the Universities students; and actively recruit, hire, train and coach TAN’s tutors, supplemental instruction leaders and graduate student assistants. Since joining the AAMU team, Skeete McClellan has formulated a structured tutorial process for tutors and students, developed a series of tutor training seminars, served as the University’s tutor and SI leader trainer, and instituted a faculty supported hiring process for the University’s TAN program. Additionally, she formulated a TAN Operations Manual, Tutor Training Manual and Tutor Resource Guide; and lead TAN to obtain College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification by ensuring all tutors and SI leaders were fully trained in vital academic support areas; and preparing and submitting the certification documentation. Ms. Skeete McClellan continues to expand the tutorial program and to obtain professional development in areas proven to improve all students’ academic performance, including student-athletes. She is committed to assisting students obtain the tools they need to successfully complete their academic journeys and to become lifelong learners. Under her leadership, TAN has grown from three tutors to over forty tutors and seven SI leaders. Linda has formed many collaborative partnerships with university departments, higher education professionals and the community. She is committed to serving all students, including persons with various abilities. Ms. Skeete McClellan facilitates a community tutorial program for elementary, middle and high school students. She has served as a Psychology and Freshman Orientation instructor, and is a current member of the Association for Tutoring Professionals (ATP) and the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Ms. Skeete McClellan’s research interests include: the role of motivation in student persistence; the role of academic support in promoting student engagement and strengthening student success; the influence of culture on college persistence; and the impact of learning styles on student success. Ms. Skeete McClellan holds a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Alabama A & M University and Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Oakwood University. |
