The Association for the Tutoring Profession (ATP) offers certification for tutors and tutor trainers with a twofold purpose: to recognize individuals for their expertise and dedication to the tutoring profession and to establish uniform standards for training across the profession. Please see Certification Slides ATP Certification Levels and RequirementsTutor Certification will be granted at the following levels:Associate Tutor: Applicant must have completed a minimum of 10 hours of tutor training (a list of approved training is on list), has at least twenty-five hours of tutoring experience, is a member of ATP and submit two letters of recommendation. Application Advanced Tutor: Applicant must have completed a minimum of 20 hours of tutor training (a list of approved training is on list), has at least fifty hours of tutoring experience, is a member of ATP and submit two letters of recommendation. Application Master Tutor: Applicant must have completed a minimum of 30 hours of tutor training (a list of approved training is on list), has at least seventy-five hours of tutoring experience, is a member of ATP and submit two letters of recommendation. Tutor Trainer and Master Tutor Trainer Certification will be granted on the following levels:Tutor Trainer: Conduct a minimum of 40 hours of tutor training, 75 hours of tutoring experience, maintain membership in the ATP, submit two letters of recommendations and provide evidence of professional development during the previous three years consisting of at least five CEUs* offered by or approved by the ATP (see list). Application Master Tutor Trainer: Conduct a minimum of 50 hours of tutor training, 100 hours of tutoring experience, maintain membership in ATP, submit two letters of recommendations and provide evidence of professional development during the previous three years consisting of at least five CEUs* offered by or approved by the ATP (see list). Certification PeriodEach level of certification is valid for 3 years. Within this period of time, you may move up to the next certification level by completing the associated requirements, which will begin a new three-year period. Certification dates are from the last day of the annual conference through the first day of the following annual conference unless otherwise noted. · Please include a one paragraph introduction briefly describing the type(s) of tutoring performed, training conducted, or program(s) managed. Include any changes that have occurred since the initial certification period. · CEUs:Examples of CEUs include conference workshops acquired at the ATP annual conference, CRLA, NCLCA, NADE or other applicable conferences including state and local events. CEUs may include training or sessions attended at the home institution but must be approved by the ATP certification committee. Please provide documentation of session attendance with certificates, or copies of agendas or conference programs. · Tutor Trainers: Please include documentation of professional presentations to include conference programs, agendas, or letter documenting the session(s). In-house presentations as applicable to tutoring may be included. Also, provide tutor training agendas or any other form of documentation of tutor training. · Tutors: Include log sheets, letter from supervisor documenting hours, or tracking system generated report with statement of hours.
Please remember that fees must accompany the application. Each application will be reviewed by three ATP certified Master Tutor Trainers and/or the ATP tutor certification coordinator. Therefore, please provide the original and three complete copies of the application packet.
