Dear ATP Members,

I hope your Fall term is off to a great start! This is such a busy time of year for all of us. I wanted to take the opportunity to remind you as you are planning your budgets and professional development for the year, please mark the date for the ATP Conference scheduled from April 1-4, 2012 in Seattle, WA. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Jill Wakefield, Chancellor for the Seattle Community Colleges.

This year we are trying something new. On the whole, much of our conference programming has been focused on helping beginning tutoring/learning center directors and coordinators. Now that ATP will be holding its 8th annual conference, we would like to continue offering that type of programming but also offer more for the needs of experienced directors and coordinators. In order to do that, we need your help! We need some of our experienced professionals to present on topics that are beyond the basics, topics such as how your program has evolved, what data you use and how you use it, growing pains, downsizing pains, reorganization impact, peer vs. professional tutors, advanced training topics and other lessons learned as your program has evolved. We still need and want proposals for the basics, but we feel offering more advanced topics will enrich our program significantly.

We have not clearly determined how to label these sessions and are taking input at this time. Shall we call them “Beginner and Advanced”? Your feedback would be appreciated (Deadline Sept. 7), and of course we are hoping you will consider sharing your wisdom as a speaker at the conference. Please contact me to give feedback and/or to formulate your presentation topic: twil@tjc.edu. Also note that we will be returning to the standard one hour presentation format with a ten minute Q&A time.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope that you will make plans to share your expertise with others as a speaker for the conference this year.
