Tracey Williams is a Licensed Professional Counselor who wears “many hats” in her position at Tyler Junior College. The Administrative components of her job include:  recruiting, training and supervising peer and professional tutors for all modalities of tutoring (on average 100 tutors); recruiting, training and supervising professional sign language interpreters (on average 35 interpreters). She also monitors and assists students needing tutoring, provides learning assessment and academic assistance with the goal of retention and successful completion of a degree or certificate. Ms. Williams is also responsible for fiscal management, which includes budget creation and policies for tutoring and deaf services.  Other administrative duties include the development and implementation of services, retention, follow up and tracking programs for at-risk populations. She has participated in institutional effectiveness evaluations for tutoring and interpreting programs as well as other college and state reports as required such as SACS compliance and the college Local Plan.  Ms. Williams’ college committee service has included QEP (Quality Enhancement Plan), Achieving the Dream core committee, Disciplinary/Student Judicial committee, Expanding Your Horizons steering committee, the Freshman Orientation committee, and the Retention Committee.  She assists with freshman orientation/first year experience, registration and other campus activities. She has grant writing and grant management/supervision for an independent Carl Perkins funded grant program. 

The LPC/Counselor portion of her duties include: provision of crisis and supportive counseling to students,  presentations for self-improvement and increased insight regarding mental health issues which impact education and motivation, short term career and educational counseling, and family counseling as needed for inappropriate degree plan choices or a student with a different goals from their family for education. Couples counseling is also a provided service. Counseling services also include administration and scoring of psychological and personality assessments and educational/community referrals for additional services.  Ms. Williams also provides services regarding awareness, such as “Alcohol Awareness” seminars, study skills seminars, anger management services and presentations on adapting to college.  She serves on the Early Intervention Team that discusses students who are presenting behaviors of concern across campus.

Ms. Williams’ teaching background is primarily in psychology, including Introduction to Psychology, Human Growth and Development, Lifespan, Theories and Applications of Learning, and Student Success courses.

Ms. Williams’ background in mental health includes Behavioral Medicine and Community Mental Health.  During her time as the Director of a community mental health clinic, she co-hosted a monthly talk radio show and had a column in the local paper entitled “Counselor’s Corner” in which she addressed mental health questions and concerns of listeners and readers.
