ATP Thursdays is back after a summer hiatus!
Like you, we have the privilege of working with young people almost everyday of the academic year. And, like you, we pick up their lingo, their trends, and their passions. The trend we are picking up today is that ATP, like your young people, is #LevelingUp! We are going through some exciting changes to make our organization better, faster, and stronger.
Accordingly, we’re happy to announce that the Association for the Tutoring Profession (ATP) will now be the “Association for the Coaching and Tutoring Profession” (ACTP). This was approved by a super majority of our membership. Be on the look out for our fresh, new logo, organizational identity, and additional services for our members.
Why did we add the “C” to our name? Coaching, specifically peer coaching, has become an effective trend in higher education. As defined by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), peer coaching is “a confidential process through which two or more professional colleagues work together to reflect on current practices; expand, refine, and build new skills; share ideas; teach one another; conduct classroom research; or solve problems in the workplace.” In a higher education setting, peer coaches are being used more and more – successful programs often hire peer academic coaches to assist fellow students in how to navigate the challenges of a college environment.
We’re looking forward to this exciting new chapter of ACTP! #LevelUp!
