Synergy is the national peer-reviewed online journal of the Association for the Tutoring Profession published annually in the fall and spring. The primary mission of the journal is to provide an avenue for scholarship and discussion, which furthers the knowledge of learning processes, tutoring practice, and the administration of tutoring services.

Submission Guidelines

  • Manuscripts

Manuscripts must be received by October 22 to be considered for fall publication dates and by March 1 for spring publication dates. Submissions must conform to the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, (APA) 6th edition. All submissions must be in a WORD document of 2000 to 5000 words in length, including the references and an abstract. Submission content should be relevant to the mission of the journal and the organization, express appropriate theoretical frameworks, be of interest to readers, be clear and organized, contain links between theory, research, policy and/or practice, and recognized and accepted scholarship.

  • Editorials

The following considerations will be made for editorials: timeliness, substance, accuracy, and integrity. Editorials will be solely the opinion of the author and do not necessarily represent the viewpoint of the Editorial staff and the Association of the Tutoring Profession.

  • Review Process

An email message to the first author will acknowledge manuscript receipt. Authors can expect to receive one of four decisions: (a) manuscript acceptance, (b) acceptance with revision, (c) non-acceptance with an invitation for revision and resubmission for another round of review, or (d) non-acceptance and recommendation for submission to a different publication. Reviewers aim to provide authors with helpful feedback for manuscript revision and future manuscript preparation. Editors reserve the right to make style corrections. Manuscripts that fail to follow submission guidelines will not be reviewed.
